Talks, training and demonstrations
Suitable for groups of all kinds from WI meetings to Young Farmers, our talks cover all aspects of the alpaca from their ancient origins in South America to their place on the modern farm.
Did you know that alpacas and llamas are Camelids and have been domesticated for thousands of years? Did you know that they are intensely territorial and are used by poultry and sheep farmers to protect their flocks from predators? Our talks are fully illustrated with slides of our own alpacas, and we have many stories to tell of their quirky personalities and the ups and downs of living and working with these delightful and sometimes infuriating creatures.
We'll bring along samples of fleece and alpaca products for you to see and feel, and optionally we can finish our visit with a fun alpaca quiz, with a prize for the most correct answers!
Talks can be adapted for school and other children's groups. Please contact us to ask about availability, prices and to discuss your individual requirements. You don’t need to provide any equipment as we carry both projector and screen.
Animal Husbandry Training:
If you buy animals from us they come with an ongoing advice package and pre-purchase training in general husbandry tasks and care. Animals will only be sold singly to existing owners, new owners need to buy a group of at least three. If you are an existing owner and would like some husbandry training, please contact us to ask about availability, prices, and to discuss your individual requirements.
Do you fancy trying your hand at felting? Everything will be explained clearly and demonstrated to you before it’s your turn to have a go yourself, under instruction. All materials and equipment will be supplied. This is a group activity with the minimum of 6 people and maximum of ten at £20 per person, and of course it includes our legendary cream tea. Ideal for a different hen-party activity or maybe a group of friends having time out together. Allow 2 hrs for your visit. Please contact us to ask about availability, prices and to discuss your individual requirements. This is of great value in the care home setting, it is so therapeutic in many ways. The residents love joining in and are delighted to keep the finished product to show their visitors. Please read the letter of recommendation from Eastleigh Care Home. This activity is included in the Alpaca Cream Tea experience package. Please contact us to ask about availability and to discuss your individual requirements.
At Eastleigh Care Home we had an afternoon crafting session with Sue Ashmole, we made felted soaps. The therapeutic advantages for our residents were amazing, from the choosing of which colour yarns to use, to the working of the soap in the warm water and including the group chatter as the afternoon went on. It was good for well being in so many ways. Sue told us all about her alpacas and had lots of information about the yarn and the products that could be made. At the end each resident had a lovely felted soap to use when they next had a shower or to give to relatives as a present. We are looking forward to the next visit from cadenza Alpacas.
